I’ll start by letting everyone know that I’m not an expert. I just recently got into radio frequency scanners, and really love being able to listen in on pilots taking off and landing at the local airports. With the “rubber duck” antenna that came with my scanner I can pick up signals from maybe 3 to 5 miles away, but after switching to the Maldol AL-500H, I can pick up pilot chatter from over 20 miles away while standing in my parking lot surrounded by Apt. buildings and trees. I do live on the second floor… the higher you are with less obstructions, the better signal you’ll get. But needless to say I am extremely pleased with this antenna, and the fact that I can sit comfortably in my living room and still pick up traffic from all three airports in my county!

Most HAM operators think of their included rubber antenna as little more than a dummy load. The MH-510 antenna makes a huge difference over the stock unit. This is a well-made product that actually makes a difference on both transmit and receive. You’ll not be disappointed.

I Bought this antenna for general use. At a local event, I was able to switch to low power to get into the repeater, and get much longer life out of my batteries!

This Uniden Bearcat 125AT will be replacing the Uniden BC-72XLT/BC-95XLT and it has a lot more features such as CTCSS/DCS(also known as PL) and aplha tagging. Paul Opitz from Uniden did a great job designing this scanner. For the price tag…this should be a big seller for rural areas not requiring ditital or trunking. It also has 500 Channels. I did NOT like the BC-72XLT/BC-95XLT..the audio was very low.
