For a basic system with basic speakers it works pretty well. You have to remember it’s splitting wattage per speaker and will not power 350 watts to each. I agree it’s not perfect but not expected. Remember to turn it off completely by the main power switch on the RECEIVER. For my need working out.

Only had the unit a short period of time, but it seems to be a pretty good unit. It functions as it should and performs as I want with good output to the speakers I attached. It does have some quirkiness to it though. The full fuction remote is nice and does more that I expected it to, however the only way to adjust the Bass, Treble, and 3 pre-set “equalizer” choices on this unit is thru the remote control. The remote also offers the controls for setting the units Surround functions (2.1, 3.1, or 5.1). So don’t loose the remote if you want to adjust these at all. When you turn the unit “off” with the remote it does stop playing and says goodbye on the display screen, but does not fully power down. There are lights around the tuning and volume knobs that stay on. These lights will go out when you use the power button on the unit itself. Another quirk is that it seems to have a pre-set default volume level of 18. It sets itself to that level when you turn it on or when you change from one input to another. For instance, lets say you are listening to Aux 1 at volume level 10 and you decide to change to aux 2. When you change to aux 2, it will automatically adjust to volume level 18. It will startle you if you’re not ready for it. It does have a built in fan on the back that runs constantly and seems a little loud, but not an annoyance (at least to me). Overall I am happy with the purchase.

Just received this on Friday and hooked it up to our new Bose environmental outdoor speakers 251 putting out 200 watts per channel. Hooked up Itouch ipod to it, was working great at first, but then unit started going haywire until it ultimately FROZE and none of the operations worked properly. Called their support office today and was informed that this unit is NOT compatible with Itouch ipod models and it will short out the unit if you try to dock it in the included dock on the top. The dock on the top is made for older generation ipod models. However, you can purchase a universal ipod doc that hooks up to the back of the unit via RCA outputs if you want to use this unit with Itouch ipod. Doing this will charge the Itouch, but then in order to hear your songs you may also have to hook up the Itouch via the Ipod/Mp3 jack on the front of the unit. Once this is hooked up properly, the sounds is AMAZING for the Bose speakers that we have! It’s reallly incredible and sounds like an outdoor concert. I only gave it three stars because the manual has no directions in it and no way of knowing that if you try to connect Itouch into the ipod dock that it will short out the unit. Had we known that from the beginning in the item description or the manual it would have saved us a lot of headaches trying to figure out what the problem was! Also, another FYI, the technical support agent suggested purchasing their lower end model P1001AT that DOES NOT have the ipod dock at the top if you are going to strictly use an ITOUCH ipod with it. Again, you would just have to purchase a separate universal ipod doc.

I have had this Amp for about six months now. Very Powerful. Sound is Explosive ! Using Bose Speakers (201 series) WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cons – When cranking it UP, The Fan must run to keep the system cool. Kinda loud when listing to a movie. Also you Can not turn system on or off with the remote. (It is a push power button).
This system is not for the weak. It is made to be played Loud.

THE BAD: The iPod dock connection is too loose. The loose connection generates noise. The male-to-male cable provided is also off-spec. I bought a Belkin cable and solved the problem. Fan noise? What fan noise? I can’t hear it.
THE ROWDY: This amplifier ROCKS! Hook it up to a pair of Bose bookshelf speakers and stand back. Way back–like down the block. Thank God for the remote. My garage is now the neighborhood tavern, and my driveway hosts the block parties. Take this amp, a pair of power-loving speakers, and a loaded iPod to your favorite beach or picnic grounds, and you will not lose the stereo war. Hook up a powered subwoofer, turn the Loudness Filter off, crack open a beer, and crank up the volume.

For the asking price of 1 this is a pretty fantastic little stereo receiver. The tube compliment consists of two 6922′s which are upgradable (and you definitely should, it will take this unit to new heights). The 300W rating is not one I would go by, but it is nevertheless a pretty strong amp with excellent overall tone and sound quality for the cost. The MM phono section is also remarkably good when paired up with a relatively high output MM cartridge (5.0mV or above). The A/B Speaker option allows for Bi-Amping/Wiring which sounded better in my setup. And surprising to me was the headphone amplifier section of this unit. It sounds quite a bit better than my old dedicated Music Hall DAC/headphone amp. I did run into a few issues one being with the internal DAC and its lag time when trying to sync. It is a mildly annoying quirk when using it with a cable box. The other issue that I found is that the balance is slightly off, but this was easily adjusted with the balance knob. The PT990A is overall a very well built and cost effective hybrid power section, perfect of an office or ancillary setup.

I was skeptical purchasing this as a replacement for my grandparents system, but did some research and this receiver sounded like the right fit (they primarily listen to classical music). The clarity that this receiver produces is amazing – especially for the price. It’s connected to a 6-zone splitter and delivers great sound to all zones without having to crank up the volume. Hopefully this will last them a long time without the tubes going.

For the price, this is the best sounding amp on the market. Warm tones, great base and super clear! Hooked it up to my Audio Technica ATLP120 Professional Turntable and man, does it bring those old records back to life! Worked great, straight out of the box. Sold to shipped in less than 4 days. If you’re on the fence on this one – don’t hesitate. One word of caution – if you’re looking for HDMI inputs/outputs, this isn’t the unit for you (it does feature two co-ax and two optical connections). Likewise ths is NOT a surround sound unit. Those caveats aside, it IS everything it states. Awesome sound, slick looking box and good quality. Keep it cool and it should last years.
